I am under twenty one years of age, but does that mean that I shouldn't be able to attend a concert?  What makes a concert at various venues 21+ material?  I looked up what shows at a concert venue in Philadelphia (The Khyber) are 21+ and which are not.  Those shows which are early are All Ages and those which are later are 21+.  I had always believe that shows at various venues were 21+ because these venues served alcohol not because of the time the concert began.  However, who are concert venue operators to say when people under twenty one can stay out at night?  I don't see a big difference between a concert ending at 10 pm and a concert ending at 11:30 pm where there should be an age difference.  Also, I realize that there are bars at concert venues, especially smaller venues, which serve alcoholic drinks and it can be hard to keep track of which concertgoes are twenty one and which are lying.  However, many venues have easy ways of preventing mishaps.  When concertgoes enter they say whether they are over twenty-one (if they are they have to show ID) and they get a certain colored wristband).  If they are not then they get a different colored wristband.  This way, waiters or bartenders know how old the person is and can know whether or not to serve them alcohol or not.  Also, a show can be all ages and there is no trouble.  Underage concertgoers are asked to not sit near the bar area; the concept really isn' t that hard to grasp and everyone is happy.  I just don't understand why I have to miss so many shows because I am 18 years old.  I do not drink alcohol nor do I wish to.  I just would like to see my favorite bands perform live and I don't see why venues must have shows 21+.
In fact, a few of the bands I had wanted to see I could not see someone older listening to.  The band Air Traffic is not a band someone older would listen to, but is clearly a teen or older teen band, as well is the band Your Vegas.  While many of the bands I listen to aren't popular with younger crowds I don't think concert venues should discriminate.

Today was pretty much uneventful.  Graduation practice was pretty dull but extremely hot.  The most exciting thing that happened today was probably the spider that nearly caused me to run my car off the road.  I really dislike insects... spiders are really creepy especially when they mock me and crawl above my head while I'm driving to school.  I hate my dad for leaving my car doors open all day yesterday; it really was unnecessary and caused me to have to clean my car which I have not totally successfully accomplished yet.  Still, the tire rims look a lot better than they did and most of the windows are clean so that's good. That whole spiel got me on a cleaning mood which made me clean the deck which is now also squeaky clean for the most part.  So after cleaning for hours in the heat I came inside and took a shower and came on the computer after which three minutes proceeded to go by and the power just went out.  What the hell?!
I can never win can I?  So then the house began to get really hot and there was nothing to do... Not that there was anything good on television anyway but I could have watch something online or listened to music on there.  That is exactly what my whole summer is going to be like... television, movies, music, tennis... lying around my house all day.  That is why I'd rather be in school and why summer is the worst and why I'm trying to think of where I could possibly get a job but nowhere is coming up. A) I don't want to deal with people B) I don't want a job around food
C) I don't want to work a cash register if I can help it....   so what exactly does that leave me? haha nothing pretty much.  I was thinking Borders or Barnes and Noble but I doubt they hire people for three months and then I was thinking Starbucks but I hate Starbucks coffee and I don't want to have to make coffee for snobbish people who are usually the ones that go in there.  And then I was thinking about Tunes but they don't have a website so yeah.. no. Oh well.. I could always help my mom out at woodcrest whatever.
Hmm... so on a bettter note... I went to Friendly's yesterday.  It was interesting.  I saw this kid who works at this restaurant that I eat at like seriously every week. He probably thinks I'm stalking him or something. Speaking of stalking... I saw Skully running the other day; random.  I wonder exactly where he was running to.. haha just around Atco?
Anyway its around 11:20 so I suppose I'm going to go read some of A String of Pearls before bed. I can't believe its taken me this long to read this book....

Alright, so today is sunday and I just read my Entertainment Weekly.  It was the Fall TV preview edition and I have to say I was very upset by what I read.  Every one of the shows that I watch is going to be horrible this season, or almost all of them anyway.  Let's just go by days of the week.  On Monday I watch Heroes... I guess that looks like its going to be good.  I'm pretty happy with how that looks.  On Tuesdays its finally Bones and House back on the same night again, like old times.  Bones is such an awesome show and I can't wait for season three and hopefully Booth and Bones to get together.  I'm not worried about that show, but House looks terrible this season.  I don't know if I'll be able to watch... Cameron in the ER and Chase somewhere else... Foreman in NY.. new characters being interviewed for the team but not being hired because House is well House.  It seems well crappy.  The first season was the best season, until they brought in Stacey.  Okay, so then it will be Wednesday which is when I watch Criminal Minds.  I love Criminal Minds, but EW says Hotch is leaving and well Gideon will be gone second eppy too.  What is CM without Hotch and Gideon.  What will Reid do without Gideon and I dont know if I'm going to like the new guy.. I dont even like the girl they replaced Elle with yet.  And then there is CSI where I read they are bringing in a new character (perhaps to replace a dead Sara?).  Sara is my favorite character, I'd hate to see her killed off.  Besides, if they killed off Sara, Grissom would be distraught since he loves her and he wouldn't be the same.  CSI won't be the same... this is definitely the last season... how much longer can they drag it out?  Its losing viewers.  They should end it now while its still having a good run.  Hmm... I think that is all for the shows that I watch.  Standoff was cancelled by FOX (most unfortunately) and so that show wont be returning.  =(

I still have summer shows that are on.  There's Eureka, Flash Gordon,  and Greek (which finishes this week).  Thank goodness they haven't done anything to screw up Eureka.  Well.... there was the accident and those four years not happening and so Carter didnt end up with who I wanted him to and who hes supposed to... but it still ended up good.  Hahaha I watch way way too much TV, can you tell?

And another thing that just ruined my fall... Djokovic lost the US Open.  I wanted him to win.  (well I wanted Federer to win, too.  Federer is a great player and deserves it, but its Djokovic's 1st us open final).

For AP English we had to read a biography or autobiography.  I went to the book store and my choice was between Amy Tan and JRR Tolkien.  I've read 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' and I've seen 'The Lord of the Rings' films and own them.  I'm an avid fan of Tolkien and his works so that was obviously why I would want to read his biography.  Amy Tan was just another author that I had known of.  In school we'd read a short story or maybe it was an excerpt from 'The Joy Luck Club'; I'm not really sure.  Still, I knew that her book wouldn't be a bad read and it would be something different.  Plus, Mrs. Meehan had told us that the AP test likes minorities and being that Amy Tan is Asian-American, she would be a minority.  Out of a whim, I went with Amy Tan's autobiography and I found by the end that I enjoyed it.
I had never really read anything lengthy by Amy Tan and what I had read by her I didn't remember much of so it was like reading her writing for the first time.  I didn't know what I thought at first and then it started talking about her friend Peter and I think that was when I really started to like it.  Even though it was a sad part where her friend was murdered, what happened next was interesting.  She had dreams with her friend and they were quite odd; it reminded me of a dream that I would have or of something from a movie maybe.  It was weird.   The next part that I really liked was her trip to China (well one of them) that she described.  It seemed very interesting and very funny and I felt as though I were there myself.  I wish she would have continued on with that; it would have been interesting to hear more about it.  Amy Tan also includes essays and such about her writing and other things that got me thinking.
There was one part where Amy Tan was talking about how people make inferences about her books and stories.  They say how she used this device or had this message or so on and so forth.  In truth she really wasn't trying to use any device or technique at all or that wasn't the message she was portraying.  That was what really got me thinking about my english class and what we do with the things we are reading.  We read novels and then we make inferences about them.  We judge was devices the author put in and for what purpose and what messages and etc.  Well what if the author never even meant those things at all just like Amy Tan on occasion.  When I am bored and I'm writing a story or something I don't plan out devices and such... I just go with the flow of the writing.  So what if there are things that we are interpreting as such important details that were really nothing at all; it seems quite funny to me and also quite annoying.  I wish some of the writers that we read were still alive today to tell their own opinions about their novels and short stories.  Amy Tan mentions a student who wrote a letter concerning 'The Joy Luck Club' and how the number 4 was used numerous times and how it must mean something very deep and important.  Amy Tan responded that that was just a coincidence and she didn't mean any of the symbols or messages that the number and things it was related to apparently meant.  It just goes to show that maybe not every opinion or thought on a novel or book is correct; So how many times have literary scholars and teachers been wrong about other writer's works, not just Amy Tan's?
Well, its getting late.  I still am not sure of the theme of Amy Tan's autobiography; the theme meaning the slant or the message.  I definitely enjoyed Amy Tan's book.  It was funny and interesting and got me thinking.  I still have no want of writing this essay on it though... oh well.

Another year gone by and yes another Aqualung concert I've been to.  This has been only my second Aqualung concert but it was once again the most extraordinary thing I've seen.  First, let me describe actually getting there.

The show was at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia and I've never been there before.  Naturally the night before was filled with plenty of googling and mapquesting to find the way there.  Lucky for me, it's a few blocks away from thirtieth street station and my brother's college dorm so we know the area.  My friend Danielle, who went with me and my dad to the show, was already in Philly all day at the flower show so she was going to meet us there sort of.  We ended up picking her up at thirtieth street station so she didn't have to walk there.  Driving in Philly confuses the hell out of me... Chestnut went the wrong way that we wanted to go so we had to go up one more and my dad ended up accidentally going back over the Schuylkill River.  It was six thirty and we had to get back to where we were and find the place.  So we go around the block and end up back where we were coming from the other direction but we get there eventually.  Of course, then you have to find the parking and we were on the wrong street.   So after going inside we had to go back out and go around the block and find the parking lot on the other side because that parking was free.  Finally we were there, parked, and inside...

The place itself inside was a lot smaller than I had expected.  There was a bar in the back and then you went down about four steps to the main floor.  The few tables that they had were already taken by the time we had arrived, thirty minutes after the doors opened.  They did have taller tables but no chairs to go along with them.  The rest of the tables without any chairs were pushed up against the stage and people had already taken to sitting on top of them; our party did the same.  (Although I have to point out that me, my dad, and my friend were probably the smartest.  We pulled out table out a bit and were able to sit with our legs out in front, not curled behind us.... more comfortable our way I thought).  So anyway, much later than we expected, the show began.

Sara Bareilles was the opening act for Aqualung.  She was sitting in the center of the stage with her keyboard and played a few songs.  I was surprised that she played for such a short amount of time.  At the other Aqualung concert that I went to, David Ford seemed to have been on the stage for twice as long as she was.  Nevertheless, she was still very good and I enjoyed her music a lot.  She's sort of pop, but with something different mixed in.  I guess she's like a bit more pop-ish Corinne Bailey Rae... with more songs like Put Your Records on than Like a Star.

So after Sara Bareilles played it was time for the main event, Aqualung.  I've been waiting since last April to see them again and nearly missed this show; I was so happy to be there though.  We were sitting in front of Ben, on the right side.  Ben was literally four feet away from us and Matt was on the other end of the stage so he was around twenty feet away.  It was amazing, I've never been that close at a show before.

Matt opened with my favorite song, Extra Ordinary Thing.  He looked so sophisticated with the wine glass sitting on top of his piano and the lights just right.  It was just him up on the stage for the first song and after that Ben and the rest of their quartet came out to join him.  They played Left Behind followed by Something to Believe In off of the new album.  There was a pretty good mix of old songs and new songs from Memory Man.  They played Strange and Beautiful, Falling Out of Love, Good Times Gonna Come, Brighter Than Sunshine, Breaking My Heart Again, Left Behind, Easier to Lie, and Extra Ordinary Thing off of the Strange and Beautiful album.  From Memory Man they played
Something to Believe In, Cinderella, Broken Bones, and Black Hole...plus more that I can't remember.  Matt, of course, also came up with his own songs and enlightened us with the history of the Philadelphia shows.. which included explaining the Ass Gig.   Matt also sang a Bruce Springsteen song which after the very first line he stopped and said, "I f*cked up the first line.  Ben, how does the first line go again?"  And then they played around a bit and did a really long intro which was quite funny... before Matt finally got it right.  I have to say the song about Philly was great though, especially with Ben playing the guitar with his beer cup and Matt saying, "And whisper it now 'Phil-adel-phia'"  It was hilarious.

This gig Matt said would be the Bruce Springsteen and talking about accents gig.  People shouting and cheering got Matt talking about how in America there are two kinds of basic crowd yelling.  I'll explain more later, time for bed.

Went to see Aqualung in Philly on Saturday and had a great time. This venue was different than the House of Blues, but it was still a great show. We were right up by the stage and about four feet from Ben and about twenty feet from Matt. I preordered the new Cd and bought another tshirt. =) Hehe it was great, Matt is fantastic and so funny. Haha more about it later when its not so late at night. Just wanted to sat while its still today that the new album came out today, March 13t and you should go buy it!

Yeah, tonight was the homecoming dance. Pretty much it sucked. Its kind of disgusting seeing the way everyone dances. I didn't want to see most of what I saw. And then there's the fact that they play only rap and mexican songs. Hello, this is America... we speak ENGLISH here, thanks. If you want to live here, learn the language or get out. I mean, if I go to German or something I don't expect everyone else to learn english because I'm a lazy ass and won't learn their language... If would ever want to move to Mexico or Spain then I would take the time to learn spanish. Yeah, I could care less about mexicans not knowing what stuff means in america.... its annoying to have to cater to them and learn spanish so we can tell them stuff. Yeah. at the dance, only one rock song was played and it was Panic! at the Disco who I don't really like but I sang along anyway. Also, it sucks seeing all these guys dancing with girls and then it was just me giana, abigail, and steph. Every time I go to a dance I wish I had a boyfriend... I wouldnt dance like disgusting with him but maybe I wouldnt feel so like left out during the slow songs. haha. This next part is in a code so yeah.. you probably wont understand it...

Sweet dreams are met with derision
This train, it was armed for collision
It's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame

Clap your hands in the sparkle and glitter
Shake your heads at the twisted and bitter
Oh they don't know how lucky they are

Foot down for the alienation
Look on as your love, its gets lost in translation
To a language that nobody understands

There are smiles as they erode and corrupt you
Of the great expectations you could never live up to
We are lost, we are lost, we are lost

get you coat, 'cos the righteous are leaving
'Cos they can't work out what the hell to believe in
It's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame

No abandon, no heartfelt desire
No love could be worth getting fired
For real, it's surreal, it's so real

So paint over the cracks and then cover
What you thought was the worst ever pain with another
And the first one, it always comes free

How they love you so cold and so vicious
With friends like these, well who needs politicians
The first one, its always comes free
They tell you heroin takes like ice cream

Clever men know all that and all this
And they will talk and they talk and the don't fucking listen
It's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame

It's no life but God, it's a living
Come on Jesus Christ, come back all is forgiven
We are lost, we are lost, we are lost

Have no fear of the state of the nation
Let the facts have no bearing on public relations
It's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame

What a model of Christian behaviour
Preach on with the message of "go fuck thy neighbour"
it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame
it's a shame, it's a shame

Watch your step by the crowd of fanatics
While they kill in the name of applied mathematics
Hate the system even though you invented it
Go kill your brothers and claim self defence of it
Picking up all the secrets and tricks to being
One of the guys whom the shit never sticks to
Take you seats for the final calamity
Don't you look serious, hell, what can the matter be?
Another day and the rot's getting faster
And all the machines started killing the master

it's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame
it's a shame, it's a shame

I definately think this song is David Ford's best.  I guess you have to sort of agree with what he's saying to like it.. still, its really awesome how he plays it.... he plays like ten instruments in this song.. all by himself.  Its wicked.  David Ford is great. Check him out.  I also love the songs "There Is A Light" and "Song For the Road."

Well, I felt like talking about House, but I guess I'll fill in on Tennis and school, too.  Today was okay.  In English I got a 92 on my Jungle essay and Jungle test.  I think I did pretty well on the Chem 2 test.  Tennis was blah.  We had to run two laps around the fence thing which is like two and a half miles I think.  At least we got to run past the soccer guys.  Haha.  Alexa and I finished the first set of our challenge match.  She won, 7-6.  Ugh, that means that if I want to keep my spot I've got two more sets to play.  It really bugs me that we spend all of this time running and never have a chance to actually play and improve.  I'm never going to get a chance to move up on the ladder if we don't actually start using our practices to actually practice.  Okay, well enough about tennis and school.

A new episode of House was on tonight and it was a good episode.  The end was the best.  House was kind of well House-like in the beginning.  He was rude and really mean.  It was sweet of him at the end to go see her and sort of comfort her.  It's kind of nice to see the compassionate side of House, but its probably better off if its only once in a while.  The rude, sarcastic House is hilarious and the reason why the show is a hit.  Still, its weird to see House actually truly, sincerely care and be sweet to someone; it only ever happens once in a while.  I can't wait till next week's episode.  It'll probably be good, but I don't like how things don't ever really continue.  What ever happens to the scenes inbetween episodes.  One episode will have a somber ending or an exciting ending and then the next episode will just seem like nothing ever happened.  What ever happened to Foreman and House telling him to wiggle the toes on his right foot and he ended up doing the opposite.  That was never continued or anything and in the following episodes, Foreman seemed to get better really quickly.  That sort of bugs me.

Anyway, a new episode of Bones is on tomorrow night.  I can't wait.  I love the show Bones.  If you don't watch it, you should definately check it out.   It's sort of like CSI, but its not.  Personally, I think its sometimes a lot better than CSI; at least the newer episodes of CSI anyway.  It's on FOX (channel 5) at 8 PM EST.

And Thursday is the season premiere of CSI.  I'm hoping that they'll have some GSR moments (that would be Grissom/Sara Romance, haha not Gun Shot Residue).  It looked pretty good.  I'm not a big John Mayer fan, but CSI is CSI and I don't care who's guest starring...  Though, I did hear that the cast didn't like Kevin Federline all that much.  That will be a funny episode to see. =P

Another really good show is Angel.  I love this show, always have.  Still, I hadn't seen it in so long before they started replaying the series on TNT starting over at season 1.  "I Will Remember You" is the saddest episode ever.  Despite the fact that after Angel left Sunnydale because he's cursed and Buffy and he couldn't see each other anymore or else he would become evil (he can't experience true happiness), Buffy goes out with Spike... I'm still a Buffy/Angel fan.  They are perfect for each other.  It stinks that Buffy is able to move on (obviously because she's human and not cursed) and Angel has to go on living without love, and also knowing that he could have chosen to stay human and have a life with Buffy.  He's the only one that remembers the time that they spent together before time was wound back so that he could change everything.  So instead of being with Buffy, he changed the day so that he just let Buffy walk out of the door and back to Sunnydale.  I cried during that episode because it was so sad.

Hmm, well I guess that's all.  I want to write fanfiction and its nearing midnight so I guess I'll go.

The title says it all really.  Today was boring.  I got up at around seven, expecting to go to tennis practice and run a mile and a half at eight thirty.  Fortunately, Krista called and tennis practice was cancelled.  Unfortunately, I was up and that means I couldn't get back to sleep.  I can't go to sleep when it light out.  So I stayed up and had toast and tea.  And from around eight o' clock til ten thirty I cleaned the kitchen.  I guess I was really bored because I didn't have tennis.  So I cleaned the counter and the kitchen table.  I unloaded the dishwasher.  I cleaned the fridge and cleaned the stove.  And I vaccumed the living room and dining room.  I feel very accomplished.  Haha.  I went on the computer and checked my email and all, which I sort of had a lot of.  I've been trying to not come on the computer a lot.  I feel lazy when I'm on the computer all of the time.

On the computer I read a really good Bones fanfic.  It was quite interesting and really well written.  I got time to work on my fanfic today, too.  It's a Bones fic.  I have and House fic that I'm working on, too, and an X-Files fic.  I really hope I'll be able to get one of them done and not have writer's block.  I want to get a few chapters of one of them done so I can put it on FFnet.  I need feedback and reviews.  That way I know if there's actually a point in me writing.

And I looked for icons.  I'm obsessed with icons.  I really with I had Photoshop. I want to make icons; better ones than you can make with mytheme.com.  I wish someone had more caps for the season premiere of Bones.  I feel like making an icon, but I dont have a good pic to make it with.  Oh the dilemma!

I only have one chapter left of my summer reading book left to read.  I think I'm going to read that tonight and then I will be finished with it!  Finally!  And then I can read Death Du Jour by Kathy Reichs or When the Wind Blows by James Patterson.  And I have an X-Men book that I want to read as well.  Man, the summer is almost over.  I barely go to do anything it seems.  I never really got to hang out with Ang or Caroline.  I barely went bike riding.  The only think I did do was play tennis and read the summer reading book.... and go down the shore with family a few times.  Tomorrow night is the Shakira concert down the shore at the Trump Taj Mahal.  Me, my mom, my mom's friend, and my mom's friend's daughter are staying over.  It should be fun. =)  And then school on Wednesday.  Back to school....  and back comes the stress of getting homework done on time and doing essays and projects and all that jazz.  Gee I just can't wait! *<Note the blatant sarcasm there*

Hmm...  today I didn't feel like going outside and getting the mail.  To tell you the truth, I rather felt like continuing to act like a bum and watch TV, lol.  However, I was extremely happy when I opened my mailbox and saw a package... for me!  Haha, it was my Aqualung Strange and Beautiful Dual Disc CD/ DVD.  I was like jumping up and down with excitement.  Yeah so I just watched it.  Matt Hales is the greatest person in the world.  He's so cute.  And Ben Hales has to be the most insane person in the world.  Poor Matt, having to be filmed when he's doing interviews over the phone.  Hahaha... I think Ben is just easily amused or something like that.  Oh but the best thing had to have been "Its easy to play the Aqualung way"  Haha with the space ray thing.  That was odd... still i wish I had a piano.  I want to learn how to play the piano soo badly.  I'm going to teach myself one of these days and then I'll feel very accomplished and I'll play Strange and Beautiful when I get bored and remind myself of Matt which will remind me of Elmo which will also remind me of Danielle who also happens to like Aqualung.

Well, I'm hungry.. I wonder if my mom is home yet.  I'll update later.

Yeah, the title says it all.  Saturday was fun.  I finally got the summer reading book and I also got another book by James Patterson.  It's supposed to be really good.  Later on at like nine thirty I went out to dinner with my mom and my grandmom.  Sunday was the interesting part.  I went canoeing with my dad, my mom's friend and her husband and two kids.  We went somewhere in Folsom I think.  But anyway, we sunk the canoe once.... and my dad's cell phone got ruined.  And then everything was going good... except my clothes were soaked, but yeah.  So we were fine and I went in the tube that they brought for a bit and then I got back in the canoe with my dad and my mom's friend.  Later when I went back in the tube, my mom's friend's son got in the canoe with them and they ended up hitting a log and flipping the canoe again.  And I ended up losing a sandle and my hat got soaked.  But it was really fun and completely hilarious.  We ate dinner at my mom's friend's house and went in their hot tub.  That was fun.  And yeah that pretty much sums up my weekend of fun.  =)

And yay its Monday.  A new episode of "Life on Mars" is on tonight.  And then tomorrow is Tuesdy which means episodes of "House", "Bones", "Dead Like Me", and "Eureka".  Yup yup.  Oh and if your reading this (meaning Abigail, Steph, or Danielle...   Pysch is gong to be on NBC on Monday nights at 9pm (or 8pm) I think starting tonight.  Yup, just to let you know).
